I got an email from Flickr today telling me they’ve marked my account as ‘unsafe.’ There’s vague allusions to “bad things” I’ve done, but they didn’t bother to tell me what they were; therefore I can’t fix them. They also said if I do them again they’ll boot me. Again, I don’t know what those things are. I could guess, of course, but what if I guess wrong? It feels very much like I’m fighting with a FIFA ref.
The outcome of all this is:
Anyone going to ANY of my photos, even photos of my kid, gets a message that they’re entering a land of loose and questionable morality.
Sharing tools within flickr have been disabled.
I don’t come up in searches (I don’t really care about that.)
I can’t directly share a photo on Tumblr.
People going to my flickr page see nothing but static.
…there may be more. I haven’t explored them all yet.
I could export all my photos from flickr, of course, but it wouldn’t safe all the groups I’ve made throughout the years, like the Matt Haughey Recumbent Bike Group, LOLshevics, Scream Real Loud!! (ironically made in support of flickr when they were getting hassled for introducing video) and the Putting Gruber to Work Group, to name just a few.
And of course, the Sparklecorn Thread would be lost forever.
